The Magic of One Word for 2022
Choosing one word as a ritual for the year rather than making resolutions started many years ago when I was inspired by two friends’ presentation at an Indiana State Reading Association meeting. One word helps me to hyperfocus on a bullseye for my creative work for the year. It becomes the heart of what I do for the year and makes it easier to reflect.
I invite you to choose a word for 2022.
A word is easier to keep in the forefront of my mind.
Some years are full of contemplation about the perfect word and I have been known to change it before January 1st multiple times. This often involves lists and freewrites for days or weeks. For my community, I even created a One Word workshop to lead them through the process. [If you are interested, let me know and I can send you the recording.] There are lots of resources on the internet as well. One I highly recommend is Susannah Conway’s Unravel Your Year workbook.
For 2022 my word came easily: MAGIC
I find magic in the everyday and in 2022 I want to explore more of what this means to me. I have my own personal and professional magic that I have cultivated over the years. Countless times I hear the phrase, “How did you DO THAT?” My response lately has been, “I’m magic.”
I will explore many concepts in this newsletter and also within my community. [If you are interested in joining my Slack channel let me know and I will send you an invite.]
My plan is to explore the magic in everything in 2022.
Many of you know I love to make lists. I also know the magic of challenges, especially of the 30 day and 100 day variety. Currently, I am not certain how long I will stay on a topic. I have created a list for myself covering authors, inspiration, reading, dreams, poetry, tarot, prompts, etc that I want to share with you.
There is magic in this newsletter format with the comment section as well and I hope this interaction will inspire everyone.
Today there was magic in my coffee and the flow of my writing. There was magic in remembering Christmas Eve’s of my childhood and finding hygge when I didn’t even know what that was at the time. There was magic in my three card tarot card spread I recorded in my notebook written with a delicious pen.
Where did you find magic today? Do you already have a word chosen for 2022?
I would love to see in the comments!
Thank you for joining me on this creative journey. I am excited to see where it leads!
I think my word for next year will be 'forward' (as in both letting go and moving on).
It's something that is long overdue. And by not being able to move forward, I have found myself stuck. Stuck in a part of my life that I not only want to forgive myself for but to move on from.
Thanks for sharing this particular post of yours, as I did find it both personally appealing and something that I could really think about.
Lastly, happy early NEW YEAR. :).
Hello Tammy, I found you via Chris La Tray's newsletter. Magic is an awesome guiding word/concept for traversing the year forward. I will need to cogitate a bit on choosing a word, though I'm loving the idea. Other languages than English would be helpful I think, since a single word can have such a deeper and broader meaning than what we have to choose from in English, but you have given me 'food for thought' (where ever THAT term came from..LOL!).
